Chasing the Blue Light Special…relay
Way too many people are selling their souls to the devil for the company store in hopes of gaining a new lease on the life out of which they believe they have been cheated.
It is all too easy for us to become self-righteous and judgmental, when we perceive ourselves to be in a higher echelon of society over the person in need. However, we don’t take it too kindly when the shoe is placed on the other foot, and we are being subjected to glaring stares and insipid remarks. We always have a “good reason” for being where we are, and when we have been blessed in abundance, we feel justified in going out and building bigger barns, because we feel that we “deserve” to keep it to ourselves because we have “earned it” and/or “paid a price to get It,” etc.
Right now, you might be taken aback by the misguided notion that nobody’s helping you, and so you’re not helping anybody else because you already don’t have enough, let alone any to share. Moreover, did you ever stop to think that maybe the reason that “nobody” is helping you is because you’re not giving them a chance to help, because you’re too busy being Martha being frustrated and concerned about many trifling things instead of focusing your attention the more important things?
Suffice it to say, we are all one disaster away from the streets, and most of us are less than one paycheck away from the welfare line. After the “Attack on America” that left our psyches bruised, our hearts broken, and our spirits wounded, many lifestyles experienced a diminished capacity within a matter of minutes when the breadwinners perished in the tragedy or became what the unemployment department refers to as dislocated workers. A lot of able-bodied people fell victim to depression and lost their jobs because they “couldn’t cope.” Suicides and divorces increase in trying times.
Neediness is not a laughing matter, and neither is greediness. Poverty might be a curse, but greed is a sin – a deadly sin. A curse is something that is inflicted upon you through no fault of your own, but a sin is something brought about because of disobedience to God. And, just in case you are wondering how does greed sum up as being disobedient to God, try reading my closing scripture … Matthew 5:1-13
