Sins of the Tongue
Jesus is your redeemer; so, as Mary said at the wedding feast in Canaan, “Whatever he tells you to do, do it.”
Sometimes he may tell you to have a seat, sometimes he may ask that you lend a hand, and at other times, he may ask you to leave, and sometimes you may be called to go on the front line, like David against Goliath, but you can be confident that wheresoever he leads, he is able to protect, provide and deliver. So let go and let God be God in your life.
The Holy Spirit is grieved by sins of the tongue. The Bible tells us that the tongue is a little thing, but oh what a fire it kindleth. Scripture tells us that the tongue has the power to bring down kingdoms. Don’t let it bring down the kingdom that God is erecting in your name. Ask God to put a watch upon your tongue that every word that goes forth from your mouth will glorify his name and cause others to reach up higher in the things that are of God.
Remember: The power of life and death is in the power of the
tongue. What you say in anger can ignite a flame that will burn your family for generations to come. As a matter of fact, God says unto the third and fourth generation. No weapon that is formed against you will prosper, but you can light a fire that will cause your own destruction. So please, do not take this issue lightly, and be very careful how you wield that thing. This is good instruction for everyone – and it is something of extreme importance if you are married and/or have children. The enemy can, and will, use them to trifle you, to shake your foundation, and tear down your pillar of faith. Please do not be deceived by their antics. When you are accosted by your loved ones, ask God to reveal the spirit that is behind their actions. Once you identify the spirit, then deal with them in accordance with the word of almighty God.
We are indeed our brothers’ keeper, and it’s through the works of our hands that others inherit the goodness of God’s grace, we will be blessed, and God will be glorified. That is why Jesus said, “Do not only be hearers of the word, but doers also.” There is a scripture that came to mind as I wrote that last one; I came across it for the first time as I was doing the death notices for a family friend, and I find it to be so fitting in its structure in dealing with issues of the heart that I keep using it over and over. It says something that we could all do well to observe – not to say that we should not observe other passages of scripture, but I do feel that this is one that we should be especially mindful of.
“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” (1 John 3:18,21 & 22).
A Final Word of Encouragement:
God is an awesome God, and He is worthy to be praised. If you found yourself anywhere in this message. Please know that God is doing a new thing in your life. He will never put more on you than you can bear, and neither will he permit you to be tempted beyond that which you can endure – and with every temptation, he’ll provide a way out. There is no obstacle in this world that is too big for God to move out of your path. It is when you are at your lowest level of humanity that God is at his highest level of spirituality – he will tear down mountains and dry up oceans to establish new nations.
