Commuters Prayer

DearLord and Savior of Us All,

Today I come before you with a new area of endeavor-to pray for the peace of all users of public transportation. Whatever the form of transport, land, air, sea, or rail, all throughout the day, commuters enter a diaspora of anger, frustration, and subliminal inconsideration.

For many of us, myself included, we enter our commuter bay in a state of reckless abandonment, not being mindful of how our actions or inaction can alter the course of another person’s day-or life, for that matter. Being witness to, a victim of, and to some extent an unknowing perpetrator of such disservice, I am almost always drawn to intercessory prayer, during the course of my own commute. Today, I recognized that such action, though mindful and well-intended, is of ill-repute, since it singles out individuals and is limited to my place of appointment at the time, and creates a separation of accountability.

Lord, please forgive me for the error of my ways, and bless each of us with a conscious spirit of awareness that we might be mindful of our actions and considerate of others in our thoughts, words and deeds. Let us walk in fervent goodness, not yielding our will to negative forces that permeate the surrounding area, and create a synergy of peacefulness, an atmosphere of tranquility and an oasis of love, honor and respect in this desert of depravity. May we be forever mindful that “love does no harm to its neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.” (Roman 13:10) and not love in word only but also in deed, and in your mercy and grace continue to abound.

In your most precious and holy name, I pray. Amen.
